Ronald J. Gobbi, age 90, of East Wakefield, NH, formerly of Lynn, died Monday April 3rd at his home after a brief illness. He was the husband of the late Alice Loretta (Malo) Gobbi, with whom he shared 48 years of loving marriage. Born in Swampscott he was the son of the late Paul and Jeanette (Demeule) Gobbi. Ron attended Lynn schools. As a young teenager Ronnie worked with his father Paul, who was a chef in Boston, cooking and preparing food. In 1949, shortly after turning 17, he joined the United States Marine Corp and served in the Korean War driving trucks loaded with troops and supplies into enemy territory. Ron achieved the rank of Sergeant and was honorably discharged in 1953. Ron enjoyed many years as a tractor-trailer driver, driving rigs around Boston and the suburbs. He later became a master mechanic and worked at Saltz Chevrolet in Salem, and Lynnway Dodge in Lynn. Ron worked at the Department of Public Works in Lynn as a heavy equipment mechanic and maintained the City of Lynn’s fire equipment. Ronnie retired as a supervisor at the DPW in 2004.
Ronnie’s passion was his family, and he loved seeing his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was close to his cousins Theresa Reardon, Shirley Brown, and Rita Brewster. Ronnie had many lifelong friends including the late Donald and Evelyn Shore and Anthony and Marion Granese.
Ron had many interests and hobbies including bowling, woodworking, throwing horseshoes and playing golf. He was a fan of the Boston Red Sox, New Hampshire Fisher Cats and the Boston Bruins. He loved listening to Yanni, Sarah Brightman, and the late Luciano Pavarotti.
Ronald is survived by two sons Ronald R. “Rick” and his wife Patricia Gobbi of Derry, NH, Daniel T Gobbi of East Wakefield, NH, and daughter Deniese Smith of East Wakefield, NH four grandchildren, and four great grandchildren.
Service Details: Ron’s visiting hours will be held at the Parker Funeral Home 35 Franklin St. Lynn on Monday April 10th from 11:00 – 1:00 PM followed by funeral services at 1:00 PM to which relatives and friends are invited. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery.
