Robert J. Tobin

Robert J. Tobin, age 85, of Beverly, died Friday at the Kaplan Family Hospice House, surrounded by his family after a lengthy illness. He was the husband of Patricia M. (May) Tobin with whom he shared 60 years of marriage.

Born in Somerville he was the son of the late Walter and Vera F. (Munn) Tobin. He attended Lynn schools and graduated from Lynn Vocational Technical Institute, Class of 1952, and earned a Bachelor’s Degree from Northeastern University. Bob served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. He lived in Lynn until moving to Beverly in 1959. Bob was employed as a Structural Engineer at General Electric, General Dynamics, and then Stone and Webster until he retired. He enjoyed gardening, planting trees, and photography.

In addition to his wife he is survived by three sons Robert J. Tobin, Jr. of Salem, Dale and his wife Jeannelle Tobin of Lynn, Raymond M. and his wife Elizabeth Tobin, Sr. of Danvers, one daughter Kelly A. King of Marblehead, two brothers Gerald and his wife Barbara Tobin of Danvers, John and his wife Judy Tobin of Worthington, one sister Joyce and her husband Charles Davis of Somersworth, NH, nine grandchildren Jessica Abu-Hijleh, Sherene and her wife Jennifer Abu-Hijleh, Nisrene Abu-Hijleh and Jamal Abu-Hijleh, Raymond and his wife Meagan Tobin, Jr., Thomas and his wife Esther Tobin, Dominic Tobin, Hannah and Erin Tobin, three great grandchildren Edward Cordeiro III, Natalie DeBrun, and Greyson Abu-Hijleh, and many nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late Carl A. Tobin and Audrey Wise.

Service Details: Visiting hours will be held at the Parker Funeral Home 35 Franklin St. Lynn on Saturday Sept. 14, from 10:00 – 12:00 PM, Memorial services will follow at 12:00 PM to which relatives and friends are invited to attend.
