Joanne Anderson, age 87, of Peabody formerly of Lynn and Lakeland, Florida died Tuesday, December 20th at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers after a brief period of failing health. She was the wife of the late Robert G. Anderson with whom she shared 47 years of marriage. Born in Lynn, she was the daughter of the late Charles S. and Etta G. (Butler) Pettigrew. She attended Lynn schools and graduated from Lynn English High School, Class of 1953, where she was a proud Bulldog cheerleader.
Joanne was employed in the Loan Department at the Lynn Institution for Savings and the Lynn School Department as a secretary in the Title 1 department. After leaving the school department, She and Bob began Anderson’s Hostess Helper and the The Blueberry Patch Gift Shop, two endeavors that allowed them to follow their passion and connect with the community, while also allowing them to work side by side, which was their favorite place to be.
Joanne was active, especially in the choirs of the former St. Luke's Methodist and Broadway United Methodist Churches of Lynn, and Lake Gibson United Methodist Church of Lakeland, Florida. She was a current member of the Community Covenant Church in Peabody. She directed musical shows while in Florida, and at the Peter A. Torigian Senior Center in Peabody where she shared her love of music.
Joanne was the loving mother of Richard Goodwin and his husband John Piel of Doylestown, PA, Gayle Bastarache of Peabody, Wendy and her husband John Pereira of Milton and Nancy and her husband Michael Carrancho of Fredericksburg, VA.
She was Nana to Kathy, Mike, Jessie, Rachel, Liz, Johnny, Katie, Emily and Matt, who were lucky to experience camping trips, Disney trips, and the magic she and Papa created for each and every holiday. She was also Great-Nana to Adam and Knox.
She was the step-mother of Cathy and Frank Kashner of Marblehead, and Bonnie and Paul Achterhoff of Peterborough, NH. She was also the sister of the late Charles, Daniel and Robert Pettrigrew, and the former wife of the late Richard Goodwin. She is lovingly remembered by her many nieces, nephews, cousins and her sister-in-law Liz Pettigrew.
Service Details: Visiting hours will be held at the Community Covenant Church, 33 Lake St. Peabody on Sunday Jan. 8th from 1:00 – 3:00 PM followed by Funeral Services at 3:00 PM to which relatives and friends are invited to attend.
