Jerome I. Mends-Cole died Friday December 18th at the Bear Mountain Health Care Facility in Reading. He was the husband of Grace W. (Gitei) Mends-Cole with whom he shared 19 years of marriage.
Born in Liberia he was the son of the late Rev. Dr. Joseph J. and Mariah Agnes (Capehart) Mends-Cole. Jerome was educated in Liberia; he moved to the United States and received a Bachelor’s Degree from Central State University in Wilberforce, OH. He was employed as a mechanical engineer at the General Electric for several years; he was also employed as Director of GSA, and Assistant of Public Works in Liberia. He moved to Lynn in 1993 and has resided in Lynn ever since. Jerome was a member of Solomon Masonic Lodge. He enjoyed playing piano and singing.
In addition to his wife he is survived by four sons Jerome J. Mends-Cole, Armel Mends-Cole, Jumah J, Mends-Cole, Moustafa Mends-Cole, three daughters Oneka Mends-Cole Sangster, Aquila Tetee Mends-Cole, Maude Amie Mends-Cole, five sisters Alexine Howard, Rose C. Sherman, Sophie Williams Donald, Mai Mends-Cole, Mariah Mends-Cole, two brothers Joseph Jenkins Mends-Cole, Urias Mends-Cole, a brother and sister-in-law Ian and his wife Nellie W. Smith of Randolph, MA, 17 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren. He was also father of the late Cornel Mends-Cole
