Helen E. McLaren, age 82, of Lynn died Thursday September 21st at her daughter’s home in Whitman surrounded by family after a lengthy illness. She was the wife of the late John D. McLaren with whom she shared 25 years of marriage.
Born in Scotland she was the daughter of the late James and Florence Culbert. Helen attended schools in Scotland and graduated from High School in Edinburgh. She moved to the United States after graduating high school, and has resided here ever since. She was employed as Teacher's Aide Special Needs in the Lynn School Department for many years. Helen was a member of the former First Presbyterian Church in Lynn and the Eastern Star the former Radiant Chapter in Lynn. She also belonged to the Daughters of the Nile, Daughters of Scotia, and the Volunteer Yacht Club. After retiring, she loved spending her free time bowling and singing in the church choir.
Helen had an extraordinary capacity for love and devotion. She dedicated her life to nurturing and supporting everyone around her, always putting family first.
She found immense joy in family gatherings, and her smile would light up the room as we celebrated special occasions together. She was well traveled visiting many vacation destinations. She will be remembered in her classic knit sweater with her yarn and crochet needles close by.
She is survived by one daughter Wendy J. Arthur and her husband Paul of Whitman, one son Andrew J. McLaren and his wife Teri of Lynn, five grandchildren Cameron J. and wife Christina, Emily E., Allison F., Kristin J. Arthur all of Whitman and Kenzie McLaren of Lynn. She also leaves behind many cherished extended family members in her beloved home of Scotland.
Service Details: Visiting hours will be held on Monday from 4:00 - 7:00 PM at the Parker Funeral Home, 35 Franklin St. in Lynn. Helen's memorial will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday at 11:00 AM to which relatives and friends are invited to attend. Cremation will follow at Puritan Lawn Memorial Park. Please make memorial donations in Helen's memory to St. Jude's Research Hospital for children, 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105.
