George A. Wallis, age 84, of Lynn died Sunday July 25th at the High Point House in Haverhill after a lengthy illness. He was the husband of Carol Ann (Blatchford) Wallis with whom he shared 59 years of marriage.
Born in Swampscott, he was the son of the late Eldridge B. and Emma (Bradstreet) Wallis. George attended Lynn schools and graduated from Lynn Vocational Technical Institute, Class of 1954. He served in the U. S. Navy during the Korean War aboard the U.S.S. Coral Sea and U.S.S. Cascade. George was a self-employed carpenter, and also worked for Jordan Marsh, the Post Office and Line Lumber in Saugus. In later years, he worked as a security guard at Cedar Pond Condominiums and dressed as Santa at Christmastime.
He was a member of the former Broadway United Methodist Church, and the Captain William Shoemaker Post #345. He enjoyed making wooden lawn ornaments (whirl-a-gigs), building decks, doing crosswords and word find.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, David C. Wallis of Cookeville, TN, and daughter Pamela J., and her husband Charles Graham of Methuen, a sister Patricia and her husband John Teague, a brother Luther and his wife Joyce Wallis, and many nieces and nephews. He was brother of the late Eldridge Wallis Jr., and sisters Edna McGregor, Barbara Walker, and Mildred Twitchell.
Service Details: Visiting hours will be held at the Parker Funeral Home 35 Franklin St. Lynn on Friday, July 30, from 10:30 AM – 12:30 PM, followed by funeral services at 12:30 PM to which relatives and friends are invited to attend. Burial will follow in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody, MA. In lieu of flowers, please make memorial donations in George’s name to the Vietnam Vets Memorial Fund or Wounded Warriors.
