Frederick S. Gove, age 88 years, died Friday Nov. 19th at Jesmond Nursing Care in Nahant, MA after a brief illness. He was the husband of the late Virginia M. Gove with whom he shared 49 years of marriage.
Born in Swampscott, he was the son of the late Frederick W. and Alice (Kitchin) Gove. Fred attended schools in Nahant and graduated from Lynn Trade High School in the Class of 1950. After graduating from high school, he enlisted in the U. S. Army and served during the Korean War. He was employed as a machinist at the General Electric, Riverworks Plant for 35 years until he retired. Fred was an active member of the Nahant American Legion Post 215.
Known as “Freddy, ” he enjoyed restoring all kinds of cars, and would travel to Hershey, PA every year for the Antique Car Show. He was an avid Red Sox fan, and enjoyed spending time with his family. Fred and his brother Ron built a 50ft. lobster boat at the family camp in Georgetown; named the “ Fourth Generation” it turned into a twelve year project with help from the whole family! Freddy’s mechanical expertise was also put to use when he and his brother Ron were instrumental in constructing the famous “Valiant” fishing vessel in Nahant. Freddy was always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone.
He is survived by his brother Gerald A. Gove and his wife Diane Sheahan of Middleton, his sister Norma Gove Vatcher of Claremont, FL, two nieces Linda Tyler, Amy Gove Kraft, and a nephew Russell Vatcher. He was also brother of the late Ronald W. Gove and brother-in-law to Janet Patten Gove.
Service Details: A Remembrance of Life will be held on Sunday April 24th at the Nahant American Legion from 11:00 AM - 3:00 PM to which relatives are invited. Graveside services will be held at a later date at Greenlawn Cemetery in Nahant. Please make memorial donations in Fred’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Research, 309 Waverly Oaks Road, Waltham, MA 02452.
