Evelyn Cahill Obituary

Evelyn Cahill, 95, of Lynnfield passed away peacefully at Massachusetts General Hospital on August 18th from complications following surgery. Evelyn was born in Maine and lived in Maine and Vermont as a child. She came to Lynn in 1942 to attend Lynn Hospital School of Nursing and served at Cushing Army Hospital in Framingham as a member of the Cadet Nurse Corps. She became a Registered Nurse and worked at Lynn Hospital for many years until it closed in 1983. She then worked for several years in the first aid station at Suffolk Downs. Evelyn married Richard Cahill, a long-time Item employee, in 1947 and they celebrated 57 years of marriage before his death in 2004. She was a lifelong Red Sox fan, enjoyed college football, and rooted for the Patriots. Evelyn moved from Lynn to Lynnfield in 2014 and made many new friends at the Colonial Gardens Apartments. Her family appreciates the support from Evelyn's relatives and many friends and neighbors during the past few years that allowed her to continue to live her life the way she wanted. We can never thank you enough.

Evelyn is survived by her son, Thomas Cahill, and his wife Margaret of Chesapeake, Virginia; her grandson Nicholas D'Agostino, her brother Chester Drinkwine and his wife Claire of Alabama, her nieces Katherine Sands of Lynn and Barbara Sands and her husband Donald Baker of Hampton Bay, New York; her nephew John Sands and his wife Audrey of Peabody; Mary Roblee of Saugus, nieces and nephews in Maine, Pennsylvania, Georgia, Alabama, Oregon, and the Marshall Islands, and many friends who will miss her.  She was predeceased by her parents, Chester and Charlotte Drinkwine, of Maine, her husband Richard, her daughter Jane, and her sisters Marjorie Drinkwine, Elizabeth Cannon, and Janice Kirschner.
