Eleanor R. “Ellie” Carlson, 96, passed away on May 4, 2023, at Continuing Care in Brooksby Village, Peabody, after a brief illness. Ellie was born November 26, 1926, in Lynn, Massachusetts, to Bror Wendell and Esther (Magnuson) Carlson. She grew up with her sister Dot in the Highlands of Lynn, graduated from Lynn English High School, Class of 1944, and Northeastern University, then began working as a chemist. She married Lauri O. (Larry) Carlson in November 1950 at the Johnson Street Covenant Church in Lynn. They had two daughters, Evelyn and June. Boating, skiing, playing bridge and square dancing were some of her favorite activities. She was talented at playing piano, sewing, knitting, and Scrabble. One very special place to spend time and enjoy nature was at Lake Winnipesaukee. After Larry died tragically in 1966, Ellie earned her master’s degree from Wellesley College and continued her long career in chemistry. She loved golfing, bicycling, reading, dancing, musicals, and visiting with her three grandchildren. After being an active member of Johnson Street Covenant Church for years, she was welcomed into the Unitarian Universalist Church of Greater Lynn. She was a long-time Lynn resident and also an active member of the Lynnfield Senior Center. Later she enjoyed several good years with friends and playing bridge at Brooksby Village in Peabody.
Eleanor is survived by daughters Evelyn (Stephen) Fisher of Wausau, Wisconsin, and June Carlson of Peabody, MA. She is also survived by granddaughters Emily Fisher in New York, Mary Fisher in Virginia, and grandson Glen Fisher in Wisconsin. She leaves four beloved nieces.
Eleanor was predeceased by husband Lauri, sister Dorothy Chamberlain, her parents, in-laws and some close friends.
A memorial gathering will be held at the Parker Funeral Home, 35 Franklin St., Lynn, on June 12, 2023, from 10:00 a.m. until noon. Interment will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery in Lynn.
