Swampscott – Beryl (Doliber) Smith, 88, beloved wife of the late Dana P. Smith, died Tuesday, August 25, 2020 at home, surrounded by her family.
Born in Lynn and raised in Swampscott, she was the daughter of Irving Eustis Doliber and Dorothy Hall Doliber. Beryl graduated Swampscott High School in 1949 and attended the School of Practical Arts in Boston. She worked as a draftsman and taught dance prior to marrying Dana P. Smith on May 22, 1954.
Family was most important to Beryl and she loved watching her family grow. And grow it did. She attended an incomprehensible number of graduations, dance recitals, band concerts, shows, sporting events, weddings and births.
She loved sewing, knitting, reading, creating art, gardening, sitting at the beach and walking around town. She cherished family vacations in New London, New Hampshire and sharing Sunday dinners with those she loved.
She somehow managed to fit in time to work. Her career took many twists and turns, from Beaconway Fabrics to the Alden Merrell Cheesecake Company, and for more than twenty years she was an administrator with Paine Webber/UBS.
She is survived by her loving family; seven children, Lori Lavoie and her husband, Mark, Dana Smith and his wife, Laurie, Beth Smith and her husband, Joel Naftelberg, Kimberly Smith, Russell Smith and his wife, Mary, Dean Smith and his wife, Tina, and Deidra Smith, twelve grandchildren, Amanda Lavoie, Allison Gwilliam and her husband, Pete, Darren Lavoie and his fiancé Tori, DJ Turner, Gillian, Daniel, Justin, Gabrielle and Brendan Smith, Chelsea and Harrison Naftelberg and Olivia Horton, and three great-grandchildren, Brayden Lavoie, Grant and Nora Bea Gwilliam.
She is also survived by her sister, Janice and her husband, James Bettger, and their children, Julie and her husband, John Burke, Jeffrey, and Jonathan and his wife, Patty, and many nieces and nephews.
Her funeral services were private. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Beryl’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America or an Alzheimer’s organization of your choosing. Guestbook at parkermemorialfuneralhome.com
