Barbara A. Kinney, age 100, of Saugus, formerly of Wolfeboro, NH died Thursday January 20th after a brief illness. Born in Port Angeles, Washington, she was the daughter of the late Henry James and Eda Mae (Peterson) Cathcart. She attended schools in Port Angeles and graduated from Port Angeles High School, Class of 1939. Barbara moved to Salem in 1950, and was employed as a cashier at Salem Hospital for many years until she retired in 1987. After retiring, she moved to Wolfeboro, NH where she worked at a variety of places including Huggins Hospital, Oh Fudge and the Wolfeboro Chamber of Commerce, working well into her 80’s. She resided in Wolfeboro until she moved to Saugus in 2013. She was a member of the former Wesley United Methodist Church and attended services regularly at the Wakefield-Lynnfield United Methodist Church. She loved her independence and lived on her own until her passing. She spent many years performing and traveling with the Sweet Adeline’s of Lynn. She enjoyed reading, playing games, going to Bingo, visiting the casino and traveling throughout the United States and Bermuda. She was an avid sports fan and loved watching the Red Sox and Patriots, especially when they won. She loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and especially her great grandchildren.
She is survived by one daughter Kathy A. and her husband James Kane of Lynn, one son Greg W. Kinney and his significant other Bridget Denihan of Winter Haven, FL, three grandchildren: James Kane, Jr. of Salem, Colleen Baker of Lynn, Michelle Kinney of Danvers, and four great grandchildren: Justin Curtis of Danvers, Kevin, Jonathan and Maegan Baker all of Lynn. She was also the sister of the late Jack Cathcart, whom she missed dearly.
Service Details: Visitation will be held at the Wakefield-Lynnfield United Methodist Church 273 Vernon St. Wakefield, MA on Sunday January 30th from 12:00 – 1:00 PM, followed by Funeral Services at 1:00 PM to which relatives and friends are invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Barbara’s name to the Wakefield-Lynnfield United Methodist Church or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105-9959
