Antonia B. Demakis, age 85, of Topsfield, passed away Friday, April 1, 2022 at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers after a lengthy illness. She was the wife of the late Timothy S. Demakis, with whom she shared 54 years of marriage.
She was born on October 24, 1936 in Ipswich, MA. She was the daughter of the late James and Penelope (Moronis) Bouzianis. She attended schools in Ipswich and graduated from Ipswich High School, Class of 1954, received her Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing and R.N. from Boston University, Class of 1958, and earned her Master’s Degree in Education from Salem State University. Antonia taught nursing at Salem State University and also taught sixth grade in Topsfield at the Steward Elementary School until 1969, when she stepped aside from her teaching and nursing career to raise her two sons. She was a member of the St. George Orthodox Church in Lynn, and the Assumption of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church in Ipswich. She loved animals and traveling every year to Marco Island, FL. Above all, she cherished the time spent with her family.
She is survived by her son, Jason and his wife Konnie, of Danvers, and their children Timothy and Nicholas; Son, Alexander and his wife Sheryl of Peabody, and their children Timothy and his wife Laura, Alexa and Vanessa; her brother George Bouzianis; sister Mary Sagris; and nephew James H. Sagris all of Ipswich. She also leaves her sister-in-law Dorothea Pechillis and brother in law William S. Demakis, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by sister-in-law Elaine Grevelis, brother-in-laws Harry Sagris, Louis S. Demakis, James S. Demakis, and great nephew, Harrison Sagris.
Service Details: Services will be held at the Assumption of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church 8 Lafayette St. Ipswich on Tuesday April 5th, Visitation will be held from 9:30 – 11:00 AM followed by Funeral Services at 11:00 AM to which relatives and friends are invited to attend. Burial will follow in Cowles Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Antonia’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Pl, Memphis, TN 38105 or Shriner’s Hospital for Children, 51 Blossom St, Boston, MA 02114.
