Anthony Uva Obituary

Anthony “Tony” Uva, age 85, of Lynn, MA, formerly of Swampscott, MA, and Derry, NH, passed away on Friday, March 12, 2021 at Beverly Hospital after a lengthy illness. He was the husband of Mary (Fabrizio) Uva, with whom he shared 62 years of marriage.

Born in East Boston, he was the son of the late Aurelio and Natalina (Sicuriello) Uva. He was also the brother of the late Thomas Uva.

The Uva Family owned and operated multiple businesses in the Swampscott Community from the 1950’s through the 1990’s. Tony owned and operated Uva’s Texaco on Paradise Road with his father and his brother Sonny. He also owned and operated Uva’s Restaurant on Railroad Avenue with his brother Sonny for many years until they sold in 1986. Tony was also a commercial lobsterman and worked with his son Jay out of Swampscott Harbor for 21 years before retiring in 1995. He also worked at the Salem Touchless Car Wash on Canal Street in Salem, MA for 10 years. Tony proudly served in the U.S. National Guard for 10 years in the Yankee Division, where he operated heavy equipment. He left the Guard at the rank of Sergeant E5. He was a good, hard-working, and honest man that was always willing to help others.

Tony loved being out on the ocean and being outdoors keeping busy. He enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle, on which he rode to Daytona, FL, for many years with his friends. He loved country music and always had it playing on the car and boat radios. He would listen to Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash, George Jones and many others while driving around in his beloved Lincoln Town Car and while hauling traps on his lobster boat. Above all, he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends during holidays, birthdays and other family occasions.

In addition to his wife Mary, Tony is survived by his two sons, Mark A. Uva of Ocala, FL, Jay S. Uva and his wife Jean of Lynn, MA and his daughter Dorothy Woscyna and her husband Paul of Derry, NH. He leaves behind his brother Armand “Sonny” Uva of Lynn, MA, as well as his sister Nancy Stapleton and her husband Robert of Salem, MA. He also is survived by his three grandchildren, Natalie Uva of Lynn, MA, Anthony M. Uva of Lynn, MA and Kristen Woscyna of Derry, NH, along with many other nieces and nephews.
