Alicia Dinora (Cantillo) Garcia

December 27, 1926 ~ June 15, 2023 (age 96) 96 Years Old

Obituary

Alicia Dinora Garcia, 96, passed away peacefully at home on June 15, 2023, surrounded by her family.

She was born on December 27, 1926, in San Jose, Costa Rica and was last living of seven children born to Manuel and Angelina Cantillo.

Alicia spent her first 42 years in Costa Rica, where she married and gave birth to her three children, Ivette Quinones, Alvaro Ulloa and Rose Mary Sargent and worked in the accounting department at Northern Railing Co.

In 1968, this matriarch of her family courageously immigrated to the United States with her two daughters and their families in search of a more productive life for them all. She made that life happen through hard work and determination — traits she deeply instilled in her family — often working two jobs at a time. She put her family above all else.

After a brief stay in California, Alicia and her family moved to Massachusetts. She lived in the city of Lynn for 10 years before spending 30 years in Allston. She then returned to Lynn for the remainder of her life.

After the death of her first husband, Humberto Ulloa, Alicia found love again, marrying Miguel Garcia with whom she very happily spent the last 40 years of her life.

Alicia retired from St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center in Brighton where she spent 20 years working in the dialysis department. For many years, she also served her community as a food pantry volunteer at St. Stephen’s Church.

Some of Alicia's favorite pastimes were traveling, listening to big band music and her favorite — taking trips to Foxwoods where she had considerable luck. She also had some moves on the dance floor, winning a jitterbug contest in her younger days.

Alicia leaves behind her beloved husband, Miguel; her three children: Ivette, Alvaro & Rose Mary. 10 grandchildren: Anna Lally, Humberto Ulloa, Gonzalo Quinones, Jr., Dinora Ulloa, Fabiola Braccio, Alvaro Ulloa, Jr., Sonia Lithieth Ulloa, Ivette Thomson, Presbery Ulloa & Tanya Emerson and many great as well as great, great grandchildren.

Alicia will be deeply missed by her family who she loved unconditionally and served as a role model on how to live a happy and productive life. Her family would like to express their gratitude for the kindness and loving care provided to Alicia by her home health aides Belen Campos and Christina Jimenez from Quality Care and nurse Lindsey Quinn R.N.
