Thomas McAuley Obituary

Mr. Thomas A. McAuley, age 74, of Lynn died Thursday Nov. 21st at the Hunt Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Danvers after a brief illness. He was the husband of Jeanne E. (Ring) McAuley with whom he shared 55 years of marriage.

Born in Lynn he was the son of the late Walter E. and Florence M. (Flight) McAuley. He attended Lynn schools and graduated from Lynn Classical High School, Class 0f 1963. Tom worked for the shoe industry in South Boston for 20 years, was the Assistant Budget Director with the Essex County Sheriff’s Department for several years, was also a Housing Inspector with Lynn Community Development and worked at Linda’s Jewelers City Hall Square. He was a former member of the Boston Street United Methodist Church, where he served as treasurer, and was chairman of the Board of Trustees. He was a former member of the Board of Directors at Project Cope and former Trustee of the GAR building on Andrew St. in Lynn. Tom was a Civil War enthusiast and collected lead soldiers. He was a tireless campaign worker and served on the committees for many local politicians.  He enjoyed watching his grandchildren play baseball, and was a fan of West Lynn, Pine Hill, and East Lynn Little Leagues and the Greater Lynn Babe Ruth League.

In addition to his wife he is survived by one son Geoffrey W. and his wife Doreen McAuley of Lynn, one daughter Elizabeth A. and her husband Michael Lilja of Lynn and three grandchildren Nikolas and Daniel Lilja, and Brian McAuley all of Lynn.
