Norma K. Poole, of Nahant, age 98, died Tuesday, March 5th at the Academy Manor in Andover after a brief illness. She was the wife of the late Ernest C. Poole, with whom she shared 66 years of marriage.
Born in Lynn, she was the daughter of the late Samuel F. and Marguerite A. (Davis) Kinsman. She attended Lynn schools and graduated from Lynn English High School, Class of 1937. She also attended Boston University for two years. She moved to Nahant in 1949, and resided in Nahant until moving to Swampscott in 2006.
Norma was a member of the Nahant Village Church since 1949, where she joined the Women’s Guild, taught Sunday School, and served as a Deaconess for 10 years. She was elected the first woman Moderator of the church in 1982 and served for three years. She was a member of Church Women United of Greater Lynn and served as President from 1965 – 1967. She was also Chairwoman of the World Day of Prayer for five years, and served on the Executive Board from 1992 – 2017. Norma also served as the Northeast Area Chairperson of Church Women United covering Lynn, Lawrence, Lowell and Newburyport.
In 1959 Norma became a member of the Nahant Woman’s Club, and served as president from 1962 – 1964. She served as Meeting Hostess every year while providing the Invocations. She was the Nominating Committee Chairman for many years and was made an Honorary Member in 1999 for 40 years of service.
In 1970, she served on the Board of Directors of the Lynn Cancer Association, and was the corresponding secretary for several years followed by Honorary Membership through 2017.
Others achievements included: Lynn Daily Evening Item Clubwoman of the Year in1963, Volunteer of the year at the Jesmond Nursing Home, Nahant in 1975, and Valiant Woman Award, a national recognition from Church Woman United in 1992.
She is survived by three sons and one daughter: Ernest C. Poole, Jr. and his wife Cynthia Poole of Wilmington, Richard K. Poole of Downingtown, PA, Glenn Poole and his wife Linda Poole of Buxton, ME, and Donna Poole of Manchester, NH, plus seven grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.
Service Details: Funeral services will be held at the Nahant Village Church, 27 Cliff St., Nahant on Monday March 11 at 12:00 PM. Visitation will be prior to the funeral beginning at 11:00 AM to which relatives and friends are invited to attend. Burial will follow in Swampscott Cemetery
