George J. Dorney

George J. Dorney, age 75, of Peabody, passed away on Friday Oct. 12th at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Maureen L. (Steadman) Dorney with whom he shared 51 years of marriage.

 Born in Lynn, MA, he was the son of the late Leonard D. and Anne (Kirios) Dorney. He was also brother of the late Peter E. Dorney.  George attended Lynn schools and graduated from Lynn Classical High School, Class of 1960. He went on to receive his Bachelor’s Degree from Boston University with the Class of 1964.  He served in the National Guard and was later employed as an Assistant Manager of Claims at the Travelers Insurance Company until he retired in 2006 after 39 years of service.

George was a lifelong pianist.  He greatly enjoyed playing classical and contemporary music for his family, especially his children and grandchildren.  He was also an avid golfer and poker player doing both with his many friends and family over the years.  Above all, George loved cruising with his wife, family, and friends.  He and Maureen have travelled the world, both subscribing to the motto, ‘Cruising through Life….one port at a time’.    

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three children, Peter S. and his wife Kathleen Dorney of Burlington, Christopher M. and his wife Tracey Dorney of Concord, NH, and Jennifer E. Dorney of Peabody.  He is also survived by his sister Andrea and her husband Donald LeJeune of Peabody, his five grandchildren Lauren, Tyler, Erin, Benjamin, and Kathryn, and many nieces and nephews.

Service Details: Memorial visiting hours will be held at the Parker Funeral Home 35 Franklin St. Lynn on Saturday from 10:00 – 12:00 PM, to which relatives and friends are invited to attend.
