Donald J. Dennehy age 97 of Lynn died Wednesday July 24th, at Carriage Hill Assisted Living in Madbury, NH after a short period of failing health. He was the husband of the late Ruth M. Dennehy, with whom he shared 38 years of marriage.
Don was born in Swampscott and was the son of the late James H. Dennehy and Lillian E. (Doughty).
He leaves his son Donald H. Dennehy and his wife Gladenia, daughter Joan Gowell and her husband Lawrence, son John Dennehy and his wife Melinda and his daughter-in-law Lisa (Dennehy) Brown. He was predeceased by his son James Dennehy.
He also leaves his stepson C. Butch Butler and his wife Elaine, stepson Bryan Butler and his wife Nancy, stepdaughter Nancy Healey and stepson David Butler. He was predeceased by stepson Bruce Butler. He leaves 25 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. He was the brother of the late Irene Monson, Wallace Dennehy, Herbert Dennehy, Virginia Tarbuck and Janice Malo.
Don was a lifelong resident of Lynn and was an automobile mechanic for Nel Nick Motors in Lynn and Thomas Ford in Peabody. He was a World War II veteran and a member of VFW Post 345. He was a member and Past Master of the Golden Rule Lodge in Wakefield. He was an avid hunter and still deer hunted up until 2017.
Service information: Funeral will be held at Parker Funeral Home 35 Franklin St Lynn on Friday at 12:00 PM. Visiting hours will be prior to the funeral from 10:00 to 12:00 PM. Burial will follow at Puritan Lawn in Peabody.
