Calla C. (Coleman) Lyon

Calla C. Lyon, age 97 years, of Lynnfield, formerly of Lynn, died Saturday February 3rd, at Hathorne Hill in Danvers after a brief illness. She was the wife of the late Alvin W. Lyon, with whom she shared 64 years of marriage.

Born in Lynn on Sept. 3, 1920, she was the daughter of the late John and Ida (Johansson) Coleman. She attended Lynn schools and graduated from Classical High School, class of 1939. She also graduated from Forsyth Dental School in Boston, class of 1940. Calla served as a Pharmacist’s Mate First Class, in the US Navy during WW II. After the war she worked at the Veteran’s Clinic in Boston. She was employed as a Dental Hygienist with Dr. Tobey Goldberg from 1962 – 1975, and with Dr. Sheldon Sullaway from 1975 – 1985, and several other local dentist offices. She was a member of First Lutheran Church, the Chattering Crafters, and the American Association of Dentists. She was active in several shows, quilting, knitting, etc. She was an avid cribbage player and enjoyed playing with and beating her husband Al.

She is survived by three sons Dr. Michael Lyon of Memphis, NY; Stephen T. Lyon of California; Peter A. Lyon of Lynn; a niece Carol Perlino of Rowley; eight grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, one great-niece and one great-great nephew. Calla’s family would like to thank Hathorne Hill and Beacon Hospice for their care, understanding and compassion.

Service Details: Calla’s services will be held at First Lutheran Church 280 Broadway Lynn on Saturday 2/17 with a visitation from 9:30 to 10:30 AM followed by a memorial service to which relatives and friends are invited to attend. Interment of ashes will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery. Please make memorial donations in Calla’s name to Forsyth School of Dental Hygiene 179 Longwood Ave. Boston, MA 02115.
