Mr. Allan L. Pitcher, age 94 years, of Washington, DC died March 24th at the MedStar Washington Hospital Center after a brief illness. He was the husband of the late Achsah (Darnell) Pitcher.
Born in Lynn he was the son of the late George and Helen (Lothrop) Pitcher. He attended Lynn schools and graduated from Lynn Classical High School Class of 1942. After earning a degree in civil engineering in 1950, Allan went to work for Boeing Aircraft Company and later for the Neareast Foundation in Northern Iran. He joined the U. S. Agency for International Development as a Foreign Service officer and worked in several West African countries before retiring to Georgetown, Washington, DC in 1977. He served in the U. S. Army Corps, and the U. S. Air Force retiring with the rank of Major. He also had a 22 year career with the U. S. Agency for International Development, and volunteered at the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History for 35 years, where he was a docent at the Insect Zoo.
Allan was a lover of books especially Dr. Seuss… “Life’s too short to wake up with regrets. So love the people who treat you right. Forgive the ones who don’t and believe that everything happens for a reason. If you get a chance, take it. If it changes your life, let it.” Dr. Seuss
Allan is survived by his sister Mildred (Pitcher) Simpson of Peabody, nieces Jane Meehan and her husband Gerry of Peabody, Joanne Simpson of Peabody, his nephew Christopher Darnell and his wife Beverly of Washington, DC, and seven great nieces and nephews, and seven great great nieces and nephews.
Service Details: A gathering of family and friends will be held at the Parker Funeral Home 35 Franklin St. Lynn on Saturday April 27th at 9:00 AM, followed by gravesides services in Pine Grove Cemetery, relatives and friends are invited to attend.
