Shirley A. (Arsenault) Bates

Shirley A. Bates, age 89 years, of Biddeford, ME, formerly of Lynn, died Wednesday April 3rd at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough, ME after a brief period of declining health. She was the wife of the late Aubrey L. Bates with whom she shared 30 years of marriage.

Born in Lynn, she was the daughter of the late Leo F. and Esther (Eagan) Arsenault. Shirley attended Lynn schools and graduated from Classical High School, Class of 1954. She was employed as a Human Resource Manager at Rich’s Department Store in Salem for many years until she retired. Shirley enjoyed reading, crocheting, and loved spending time with her family. She also enjoyed pampering her pet dog Baby Sugar Plum.

She is survived by her son Aubrey J. and his wife Elizabeth Bates of Groveland, her daughter Cheryl A. and her husband Ronald Boulay of Biddeford, ME, six grandchildren Matthew Bates of Groveland, Melissa O’Sullivan of Gorham, NH, Heather Bates of Amesbury, AJ Bates of Haverhill, Brian Boulay of Gray, ME, Laurie Boulay of New Gloucester, ME, nine great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Service Details: A private graveside burial will be held at Pine Grove Cemetery in Lynn. Please make memorial donations in Shirley’s name to Care Dimensions 75 Sylvan Street Danvers, MA  01923.
