Robert Milton Shorey, age 82 years, of Peabody, formerly of Lynn. Reserved, with a sharp wit, a warm smile, and an enduring resilience to care for the ones he loved, passed away peacefully while surrounded by his family on June 30, 2017.

Born in Lynn to Milton and Regina, Robert grew up closely cared for by his older sister, Bobbie. In high school, a friend introduced Robert to the young woman who would eventually become his wife.  Myrna’s playful humor and Robert’s steady rationale would bring them 56 beautiful years of love, marriage, and family together. Before settling in Peabody, Bob and Myrna lived with their sons in upstate New York and Fort Wayne.

After graduating from Lynn English High School, Robert served in the United States Air Force.  He was supported by Myrna while he completed General Electric’s Apprentice program and his Master's Degree from Boston University and Union College. He had a long career with General Electric as an engineer architect of the quality control systems.

While raising his three sons with Myrna, Robert was Scout Leader of Troop 37 in Lynn, an active member and leader of Broadway United Methodist Church, a member of Center Congregational Church, and Jordan Masonic Lodge A. F. & A, M., for which he was recently received his 50 years medal. Family, friends, and the ocean were weaved into every effort and pastime of Robert’s life. He loved sailing in both New England and the Caribbean. In his later days, he was known to still point out and share stories about each harbor on the North Shore, the location of past moorings he and Myrna once owned, and the different sailboats they had enjoyed in each of those spots. Along with sailing, home repairs and woodworking were just some of the many talents Robert would share and teach his sons.

Throughout his life, Robert was steadfast in attending nearly every sport or activity each of his children and grandchildren would participate in. You could find him at little league to minor league baseball games, track meets, dance recitals, lacrosse, and soccer games. Robert would travel across Massachusetts, and even the country, to support his grandchildren in all of their endeavors.

Predeceased by his loving wife, Myrna Jean (Barke), Robert leaves behind a sister, Bobbie Shorey; sister in law, Barbara Barke; three sons and daughters-in-law, Dana and Michelle, Brian and Runxin, James and Carla; six grandchildren, Mark, Cara, Alicia, Taylor, Morgan, and Jason; and numerous nieces and nephews.
