Mildred E. (Tyler) Hampton

Mildred “Millie” (Tyler) Hampton, age 96, passed away Monday at Lynn Home for Elderly Persons after a brief illness. She was the wife of the late Elmer Hampton, with whom she shared many years of marriage.

Born in Lynn she was the daughter of the late Irving and Mary (Fash) Tyler. She attended Lynn English High School. Millie, as she liked to be called, was baptized in Zion Baptist Church, Lynn at the age of 13.   She was a Sunday school teacher, usher and sang in the choir.

 Millie moved to Mt Vernon, New York where she worked as a taxi dispatcher.  When she moved back to Massachusetts she went back to church where she served as a trustee.  She worked with GLSS from 1976 to 2008, as a senior aide and Assistant Program Director.  She loved people and would visit the sick and shut-in regularly.  Millie worked with Lynn City Mission for 20 years and was treasurer there.  She was at one time a member of the Lynn Community Brotherhood Auxiliary.

She is survived by four nieces Jean Hill of FL, Judy Sealey of Cambridge, Delores Lee of Haverhill, Debra Smart of Lynn, five nephews Ralph and his wife Joan Tyler of Lynn, Roland and his wife Deborah of Rowley, Clifton Tyler of Lynn, Errol Tyler of Boston, Chester and his wife Alice Bowzer of Lynn, and many great nieces and great nephews. She was also sister of the late Herbert and Ralph Tyler, Ethel Johnson, Elizabeth Golden, Anna Benders, and Marion Johnson.

Service Details: Funeral Services will be held at the Zion Baptist Church 4 Adams St. Ext. on Wednesday at 12:00 PM to which relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visitation hour prior to the funeral from 11:00 AM. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery.
