Galene B. (Blanchard) Hovey

Galene B. Hovey, age 81 years, of Lynn died unexpectedly on Saturday at the Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital in Cambridge after a brief illness. She was the wife of the late Arthur S. Hovey, III with whom she shared 54 years of marriage. 

Born in Amesbury, she was the daughter of the late Neal Dow and Ruth (Barber) Blanchard and step daughter of the late Mildred Coffin Blanchard. She attended Amesbury schools and graduated from Amesbury High School, Class of 1954. She also attended Vermont College. Galene was employed as a pre-school teacher at the Little Red School House for several years; she was also employed as a school bus driver at Travel Time, and McGinn Bus Company until she retired. She was Past President of the East Lynn Little League Mothers Club, served as Secretary on the Board of Directors of East Lynn Little League, and was the coach of the minor league Giants with her husband. Galene enjoyed vacationing in Maine and Florida. She loved traveling with her husband and spending time with friends and her family, especially her grandchildren. 

She is survived by one daughter Ruth (Tammy)Hovey of Lynn one son Neal S. and his wife Mary Hovey of Danvers, , three grandchildren, Lauren E. and her husband Michael Ghizzoni of Frisco, TX, Scott M. Hovey of Danvers, a senior at UMASS Amherst and Karen A. Hovey of Danvers a third year Cadet at the US Coast Guard Academy.

Service Details: Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 10:30 AM at the Parker Funeral Home 35 Franklin St. Lynn to which relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours are on Tuesday from 2:00 – 6:00 PM.
